You can't live without it!

We are financially responsible for all young people leaving care until their 18th birthday and for some young people who are in education or training up until 25. Payments are equivalent to nationally agreed levels set by the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP). This amount changes every year.

The amount you receive will depend on your individual circumstances – each young person will receive an agreed sum of money every week. This should be detailed in your Pathway Plan and your social worker will explain to you what your entitlements are if you are unclear. This is paid until your 18th birthday when you will need to claim Job Seekers Allowance or Income Support if you do not have a job.

Personal allowance payments should be paid directly into your bank account wherever possible, however, consideration will be given to individual circumstances on how and where allowances are received.

Young people in education or training will receive a personal allowance as an incentive payment to top up their income. In addition, they are entitled to travel allowance, utility bills paid, financial assistance toward clothing or equipment or other associated costs of their course.
